Most things, roles, possessions, situations have one thing in common. They are transitory. They have a beginning, a middle and an end. Ask yourself what does NOT fall into this category. What abides, is unchanging and stable within you, or in your life situation? All the ego states mentioned in yesterday’s blog are fluid, in constant flux. Today we’re one way, tomorrow, when it arrives as today, we’re another, at every level, mental, emotional, physical, Spiritual. What can we rely upon? This is a great exercise, to examine your inner world for constancy. What is it within you that abides?
Aside from the constancy of change, what abides is the Now. I find this to be a great relief. It’s always Now and all I ever have to deal with is my situation Here/Now. You may also observe how the mind wants to make it more complicated, wants to make an identity out of yesterday’s choices and fears of tomorrow. There is an internet culture built around fear and conspiracy that sets the heart pounding and the mind racing with self-protection concerns. This is a mind trap and fails to recognize our participation in reality creation.
Pull the plug on drama!! Begin noticing how the mind thrives on conflict and fear. Look around! Orient yourself into your physical surroundings using your senses. Listen to the sounds around you, feel the air on your skin, feel life itself pulsating throughout your body! Ask yourself, is there a problem right now? Be honest. I mean in this very moment, is there a problem? I have found, through asking this question to hundreds of people, there is no problem in this moment.
Now is the only reality. Yesterday is history, tomorrow’s a mystery, this day, this moment, is a gift, that’s why it’s called the Present. The question is do we feel worthy of receiving the gift?
